List of LaTeX mathematical symbols - OeisWiki

Hyperbolic functions The abbreviations arcsinh, arccosh, etc., are commonly used for inverse hyperbolic trigonometric functions (area hyperbolic functions), even though they are misnomers, since the prefix arc is the abbreviation for arcus, while the prefix ar stands for area.

Strict inequalities (greater/less than) in text-mode - texblog

Strict inequalities are widely used in math equations as well as within text for comparisons. ... In order to omit the math-mode within a text-paragraph, LaTeX knows text-mode commands for these symbols. Greater than (>): \textgreater. Less than (<): \textless. Non-strict inequalities (and ), however, can only be produced using the inline math ...

Include < (fewer than) and > (greater than) inequality ...

One note that appears a few times in this document, particularly in Section 2, indicates that certain symbols do not exist in the OT1 font encoding (Donald Knuth's original, 7-bit font encoding, which is the default font encoding for LaTeX) and that you should use fontenc to select a different encoding, such as T1 (a common 8-bit font encoding).

How are underscore and inequality signs inserted in LaTeX?

Have a look at Special LaTeX characters for further symbols. An inequality sign is a math symbol. Just write \( \neq \) or the like in your text, or use $ like in $\neq$. I guess you don't want to strike out a normal equal sign. Stefan

Mathematical expressions - Overleaf, Online LaTeX Editor

As you see, the way the equations are displayed depends on the delimiter, in this case \[ \] and \( \). Open an example in Overleaf. Mathematical modes. L a T e X allows two writing modes for mathematical expressions: the inline mode and the display mode. The first one is used to write formulas that are part of a text.
